This article is not just about sweep picking but is also about recording and whats best, using digital or analogue?
The second main reason is much more fiercely debated!
CD plays back 16 bit 44 KHz right? Wrong! The half wave length cut of when recording at 44 KHz is actually 22Khz. “but most humans can’t hear over 16/17Khz anyway” I hear you say. Wrong! Although the human ear can only hear sounds reaching around 20 kHz, our brains can perceive ultra high frequencies and scientists are now analyzing tests where subjects were presented with two forms of audio content, 1 with ultra high frequencies and 1 without. There brain functions were monitored and the difference is undeniable. People subjected to content with ultra high frequency content, although not able to point out the difference between the two, clearly showed increased brain activity in areas of the brain associated with hearing more pleasurable sounds and when asked which ones sounded more pleasurable, the evidence showed that audio containing ultra high frequencies was the winner!
A good bit of old fashioned analogue gear playing a good old LP can contain Ultra high frequency content to around 50khz, way higher than CD’s 22khz!
